Just Dessert

The clerk at the store had told me,"You don't want that pumpkin." But my heart was set on that one. It was round, spotless, and bright orange like a flame. Definitely better than last years  As I strolled out of the bustling grocery store, I pondered what I should make the pumpkin into. A jack-o-lantern? A pie? As soon as he thought "pie", the pumpkin in his big brown paper bag seemed to turn a little bit more...more...orange?

I climbed into the heated car with my mom. "What did you get?" she inquired quickly.

"Oh, just a pumpkin," I replied calmly. I did not know why my heart was beating so quickly. It was just a simple question that any normal adult would ask. I ignored my racing mind.

By the time I got home, I knew clear in my head. I would make a pumpkin pie. Again! the bright pumpkin in the bag glowed brighter. It must be my imagination.

"Hrhhhh," I heard.

I spun around in a circle. "Who's there?" I whispered. In the dim light of the kitchen, I could just barely see the silhouette of the bag. Without warning, the pumpkin hopped swiftly over the edge of bag and glowered up at me. "Wh...wh...what?"...

Door in the Wall

"Teacher?" 

"Yes Susan?"

"How do mice make wooden doors?"

The teachers spun around to face his off task student.

"What wooden door? Mice absolutely do not make wooden doors for their homes. If you are daydreaming again, you might as well go stand in the corner." But as he turned back around to continue the lesson on the aerodynamics of a bird’s wings, his eyes caught sight of a...a...tiny wooden door in the wall. Uhh...he stuttered at his class...Suddenly he remembered something the Grand Master had told him!

The Imbroglio Folio

He warned her about the book. Now it was too late...
As she opened the book, she reassured herself. repeating these words in her head,"Its just a book. Its just a book". What could happen?" But his voice rang in her head as well. "Don't read the book." he had said. But it was too late. Her curiosity had won. As she gingerly opened the book, she started to read the chalky white pages. She imagined everything with clear precision. It was almost like a voice was reading the book to her.
"Once upon a time, there was a beautiful castle. It rose higher than any building, higher than even the mountains. But one day, as the castle stood proud and stoic in the glimmering sun, A tiny fly flew to the top."

A tiny fly? she thought. What?
Suddenly, so unexpectedly, a voice replied,"Why yes! Of course a tiny fly!"
